“What else should be done?...We have to control,” he said to the journalists commenting on his decision to climb up to the roofs of the five-storey houses in Gertzen and Popov Streets.

Giving an assessment, Yuri Alpatov admitted that timely major repairs of roofs were delayed partly due to rainy autumn weather.

He added, however, that there is also the contractor’s fault.

The head of the city added that the work should be completed as soon as possible, but it should be done not at the expense of quality.

As the acting head of city housing and communal services Mikhail Glushkov reported, within the framework of 185th federal law, 74 houses were fully repaired in 2013.

“In 50% of cases, the repair of roofs was performed, the rest is repair of utilities. The total cost is about 120 million rubles. It was taken from the funds of the federal and municipal budgets as well as the owners’. Currently, we are experiencing problems with repairs of seven houses. The work is at the final stage, but residents are worried. We also worry that the contractors will not finish work by the end of the year,” he said.

The head of the city housing and communal services added that the task was set to finish the work planned by December 25.
