Penza, 27 December 2013. PenzaNews. Commemorative rally dedicated to the entry of Soviet troops in Afghanistan was held at the memorial complex “Afghan Gates” in Penza on Friday, December 27.

Addressing the combatants, the head of the city administration Roman Chernov thanked them for their service to the motherland.

“We are proud of you. Your dedication in performing the international duty should be an example for young people. We cherish the memory of those who are no longer with us. We wish health and happiness to those who went through this war and today has a positive influence on the younger generation educating patriotism, love of country and masculinity,” the mayor said.

Then, the participants of the rally laid flowers and wreaths at the eternal flame.

The event also hosted the presentation of medals “In commemoration of the 350th anniversary of Penza” to the army veterans, the press service of the mayor’s office reported.
