“The President of the Russian Federation V. Putin declared 2014 the Year of Culture. This year marks the anniversaries of our great townsmen. We will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet M. Lermontov and 140th anniversary of the birth of a talented director and theater reformer V. Meyerkhold. V. Belinsky, V. Klyuchevskii, A. Kuprin, A. Radischev, V. Tatlin, whose lives were somehow connected with Sursky krai, also made great contribution to the world culture. Their glorious names are in golden letters inscribed in the annals of national and world cultural heritage,” Vasily Bochkarev wrote in his blog on Tuesday, December 31.

“In the Year of Culture we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Penza region in its present borders. I am convinced that each of us will make a present for this anniversary doing good deeds for the benefit of our homeland, the craving for which lives in us wherever we are. I invite everyone to the celebration. We look forward to seeing our townsmen and guests from all over Russia and abroad in Penza,” the governor added.
