Penza, 7 January 2014. PenzaNews. Several hundred people came to the Assumption Cathedral on Christmas night to attend celebratory divine service, which was headed by bishop of Penza and Nizhnelomovsk Seraphim.

His Grace was joined by Archpriests Ioann Yavorski and Vadim Ershov, as well as by other churchmen of Penza eparchy. Diaconal rank was headed by Archdeacon Alexander Gorshenev, Assumption Cathedral Choir sang festive songs.

Bishop Seraphim addressed the faithful before the sacrament of communion.

“This is the first Divine Liturgy that I commit alone at a new department. I’m standing in the place of the cathedral where true devotees of God stood. The relics of St. Innocent are buried in this temple. All this imposes great responsibility on me. I ask all of you to do me a favor: to support me in this new role,” he said.

Bishop Seraphim wished the believers the holiday that would fill their hearts with peace and harmony.

Then Christmas message of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill was read.

After the service, Bishop Seraphim wished everyone joy on the day of Nativity of Christ.

“I wish that the joy of the holiday will take away from you all the grief and sorrow, if there is any. Christ is born! Glorify Him! Christ teaches us mercy, love for each other. We are a handful of people who should be salt of the earth! Do good! Create and bring love,” he said.
