Penza, 4 February 2014. PenzaNews. Over 20 artists from ten countries applied to participate in the fifth international symposium on art glass and sculpture, which will open in Nikolsk, the Penza region, on May 5.

It is expected that the opening ceremony of the event will be held in the former house of the owners of glass factory Bakhmetyev-Obolensky, where a business incubator which united workshops for the production and decoration of glass is currently situated.

The artists will be working in Nikolsk during ten days of the symposium. The students of local technological college and urban schools will be allowed to watch them work.

Program activities also include lectures on art glass.

In 2014, an international symposium is timed to the 250th anniversary of the founding of glassmaking in Nikolsk area.

A series of events, dedicated to the 225th anniversary of collection of glass and crystal of Nikolsk and the 60th anniversary of the city, will be held during the symposium.

It is expected that one of the most exciting cultural events will be the seventh Russian festival of Russian Romances named Galina Kareva, the press service of the government of the Penza region informed.
