Zarechny, 5 February 2014. PenzaNews. Adult female elk died during a resettlement operation of three heads of wild elks from Zarechny, the Penza region on Wednesday, February 5.
Presumably, the elk died during transportation.
One of the calves turned to be unreceptive to tranquillizer and is still in the city.
The second calf was successfully transported from Zarechny, broadcasting company “Zarechny” reported.
According to monitoring data, until recently over 10 elks lived in Zarechny, which exceeds the norm and is dangerous to the health and property of citizens.
It is officially recognized that the territory of Zarechny is the natural habitat of elks — their population here is reproductively full.
In January 2014 a resettlement operation was launched to relocate six elk.
On January 13, one female elk and her calf were removed. The second calf, who managed to escape at first, was resettled on the following day, January 14.
