Penza, 7 February 2014. PenzaNews. CNN's rating of the world’s ugliest monuments including the monument honoring the defenders of the Brest Fortress is a provocation. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of Penza city council of veterans, World War II veteran, the member of the Battle of Stalingrad Vladimir Kerkhanadzhev.

“I am outraged to the core,” he said.

“The situation is repeated as in the case with the TV channel “Dozhd,” which organized a public survey on the blockade of Leningrad on their website. This is outrageous, this is a direct attempt to falsify historical facts. These people compiling such ratings, surveys, which frighten normal people, simply spit in the soul of all veterans. These people do not know what the war is. None of them fought and none of them know what the death of the close and dear is,” the press service of Penza regional branch of the party “United Russia” quoted Vladimir Kerkhanadzhev.

The rating published on the website of CNN, caused negative reaction among veterans of Russia and Belarus. After the publication, CNN apologized to everyone offended by the comment on a photo of the monument. Nevertheless, this list continues to be one of the most discussed topics in the Russian media.
