Penza, 28 February 2014. PenzaNews. The director of Penza versatile gymnasium No. 13 Elena Tymchenko confirmed the fact of detention of the teacher by investigating authorities. However, she noted that she has no information about the reason of this detention, so she cannot comment on the fact of a possible case of pedophilia in the educational institution which caused wide public response.

“The detention of the gymnasium teacher has actually taken place. The administration of gymnasium has no official information that could confirm or refute the suspicion that your agency specify. Any official comment and clarification of the fact should be made by the competent investigating authorities,” the response to the editorial inquiry signed by Elena Tymchenko and received by news agency PenzaNews on Friday, February 28, reads.

It also clarifies that the teacher was suspended from work as of February 20, 2014, due to his detention.

The letter notes that at present in relation to the teacher “the administration of gymnasium is taking measures in accordance with the Labor Code.”

However, according to recent data obtained by news agency “PenzaNews,” it is a question of criminal offense under Art. 133 of the Criminal Code “Sexual coercion.”

In accordance with this article of the Criminal Code of Russia, the act against a minor shall be punished by compulsory labor for a term up to five years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years or without it, or imprisonment for up to five years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years or without it.

According to the sources, the teacher is now under house arrest.

The information available states that earlier the places of residence of the teacher and his close relatives were searched in order to detect objects or documents of any importance to clarify the situation.

From February 21 up to now, no department has officially confirmed or denied the information about the possible case of pedophilia in gymnasium No. 13, among them is the Ministry of Education of the Penza region and the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
