He added that the area of possible flooding also includes a section of local roads, 3,4 km of transmission lines and 3,5 km of communication lines.

“As of March 19, no settlements and infrastructure flooded in the Penza region. Small rivers still have low water. Penza reservoir is covered with ice,” Dmitry Semenov said during the meeting held in the main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region during the videoconference.

He added that, in accordance with the prediction of the maximum levels of spring floods on small rivers, there may be municipal and intermunicipal emergencies in ten areas of the Penza region.

“According to the snow surveys, snow depth and average regional rate of water reserves of snow do not exceed the norm. Ice thickness on rivers of the region is not critical, which is why no ice jams are expected. As well as no settlements are predicted to be cut off from the infrastructure. Evacuation routes, transport and temporary resettlement of the citizens from the settlements falling within the zone of possible flooding have been prepared,” the chairman of the flood interdepartmental commission informed.

According to Dmitry Semenov, the region has already had some preventive measures done for deepening, straightening, cleaning of riverbeds, and repairing of hydraulic structures which required 44,6 million rubles.

“All measures to ensure the passage of flood waters are under the control of the regional government. Supervising bodies, staff and equipment to respond to emergencies of the period of spring flood of 2014 are ready,” the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region quoted Dmitry Semenov.
