Penza, 24 March 2014. PenzaNews. The opening of XX city contest “Teacher of the year — 2014” was held in the children's art school named after Yanichkin in Penza on Monday, March 24. Welcoming the participants, the head of the city department of education Yuri Golodyaev noted that during the history of the competition, several generations of teachers have changed, but young teachers are guided by the same principles as the more experienced colleagues.

“Every teacher is a person with a capital letter,” he stressed.

Yuri Golodyaev added that a modern teacher should be mobile in order to develop new technologies actively.

“Earlier, it was enough to have a piece of chalk, a board and a professional teacher, but now the situation has changed,” he said, while clarifying that Penza teachersare armed with tablet computers, interactive whiteboards and other technical innovations that allow students absorbing the information presented in a better way.

In turn, mayor Yuri Alpatov expressed his respect for teachers, thanking them for their selfless daily work.

“Earlier, there was a goal to educate, today this goal is much higher — to give the child the ability to find their place in life,” he said.

The comtest will last for three days. During this time, 13 teachers will compete to win.

The award ceremony of the best teachers of Penza will be held in the concert hall “Zarya” at 15.00 on Wednesday, March 26.
