On the slope of Koltsova Street towards bypass road on Zapadnaya Polyana, there formed a long traffic jam. According to preliminary information, one of the drivers was unable to drive up the road due to having changed the tires from winter to summer type.

The traffic in Prospekt Stroiteley Street towards the city center up to 8 Marta Street was also paralyzed. Cars moved in four rows instead of permitted three with a minimum speed of about 5 km / h.

According to the taxi drivers, it was snow-ploughs that drove there early in the morning and basically rolled snow into ice crust.

“The situation could have significantly been improved by using sand - salt mixture, but now it is unlikely that these cars will make it here. I have seen none since this morning, although in other parts of the city — in the center and by Oktyabrsky garden — the roads are clean and sprinkled with sand and salt,” one of the drivers stuck in the jam commented.

Urban electric transport was also trapped on an overpass. Several trolley-buses were forced to stop because of an accident involving a passenger car. In addition, nearby a truck could not manage to move further up the slope.

Putting their lives in danger, the passengers of trolley-buses had to walk straight over the overpass to the nearest bus-stop, which was packed with people waiting for public transport by that time.

As the correspondents of news agency PenzaNews reported from different areas of the city, minor accidents were registered in Prospekt Pobedy Street, in Kizhevatogo and Voronova Streets, as well as in the micro-district of Ternovka and GPZ-24.

Forecasters predict that this snowy weather may linger for a week, after which a significant warming should come to Penza.
