Penza, 8 April 2014. PenzaNews. A bronze bust of Mikhail Lermontov was opened in Xiamen University as a part of activities to strengthen the friendship of the peoples of Russia and China.

The author of the work is sculptor Grigory Pototsky. The bust of the poet was donated to the university for the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Another memorable event which was timed to the opening ceremony of the monument became the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Xiamen University.

The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the educational institution, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciencies, the director of the higher school of of public administration of Moscow State University Valery Makarov, the deputy director of Far Eastern Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciencies Vladimir Portyakov, as well as employees of the Russian embassy and consulate, according to the website of the State Lermontov Museum-Reserve “Tarkhany.”

The installation of the bust was coordinated with the Xiamen University in 2013 during a visit by the delegation of the Moscow State University.

The Xiamen University is one of the leading universities in China. They teach the Russian language and Russian culture and history.
