Penza, 29 April 2014. PenzaNews. April 29 was declared to be a public holiday in Penza region due to Day of Rejoicing, an All Souls Day by the Orthodox Christian calendar.

As mentioned before by agency “PenzaNews,” the related region government decree was signed by the governor Vasiliy Bochkarev last Thursday, April 24.

With this decision, the head of the region supported the initiative of Metropolitan Serafim of Penza and Nizhniy Lomov who addressed the former with the request on behalf of the religious people.

According to His Grace, this year Day of Rejoicing falls on the second working day, and many orthodox Christians could not visit the graves of their near and dear ones.

However, now there are no formalities that prevent from observing the religious tradition.

The citizens of Penza can reach the Eastern and New-Western cemeteries by specially allocated bus line from Penza-1 train station area throughout the day.

Lessons in schools and kindergartens were cancelled as well; however, emergency kindergarten groups and classes were organized in case parents have nobody to watch the child in their absence.

At the same time, most commercial companies still continue their job as usual in spite of the official recommendation of Penza region government to make April 29 a non-working day.
