Penza, 12 June 2014. PenzaNews. Grand event dedicated to the Day of Russia and City Day was held on Lenin Square in Penza on Thursday, June 12. Dramatized prologue prepared by the children' and adult creative groups, was presented to the audience. Local singers and dancers also demonstrated their skills.

Then governor Vasily Bochkarev addressed the gathering.

“Today I would like to thank all residents of the Penza region — those who lend their talents to creation of new construction, to culture, health, and art. It is very important for the people of the region,” he said.

Vasily Bochkarev noted positive changes in society in recent years.

“Business is developing, new enterprises are growing,” the governor said, adding that everyone should do their utmost for the prosperity of their homeland.

In turn, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region Ivan Belozertcev drew attention to the fact that Russia Day is an event that brings together millions of people from different nations and peoples who live in the same area in peace and harmony.

“We understand that Russia is strong with its regions, and the Penza region makes a worthy contribution to the development of the country,” the speaker of the regional parliament noted.

City mayor Yuri Alpatov congratulated the residents of Penza on holidays, and noted that the natives of the region glorify the region far beyond its borders.

“Our fellow-citizens even went to space,” he reminded.

Yuri Alpatov welcomed youth.

“The new generation is our future, our glory and our pride. The talents that are born in our Penza land should multiply,” he concluded.

During the grand event diplomas and letters of gratitude were awarded to the best workers, teachers, doctors and members of other professions who have made a significant contribution to the development of the region.
