Penza, 2 July 2014. PenzaNews. Residents of the Penza region will choose a plant — a symbol of the region. Voting started last Tuesday, July 1 as a part of action “Alley of Russia” initiated by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. A plant — symbol will be chosen by open online voting for each of 85 regions of the Russian Federation.

“The title of the green symbol of the Penza region is claimed by: barberry Ottawa, small-leaved lime, Mahonia aquifolium, blue sedge and European ash,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature.

Voting will continue until August 31, 2014.

Preparations for the planting of the chosen symbol will begin. Landscaping project will be developed for this purpose, taking into account the peculiarities of each crop. Separate zones will be created for water and mountain plants, thermophilic and frost-resisting.

“In the autumn of 2014 a unique natural park will be created. The first “Alley of Russia” will become a symbol of the reunification of the Crimea and a present to Sevastopol residents who have shown courage and determination during the historical spring 2014,” the department noted.
