Road accident numbers in Penza region decreased by 3.4% during past six months

Penza, 16 July 2014. PenzaNews. The number of road accidents that occurred in the Penza region decreased by 3.4% in the first six months of 2014, while the numbers of lethal outcomes in such accidents dropped by 15%.

The severity of road traffic accidents (the number of deaths per 100 injured) reduced by 14.1%.

According to official data, the number of road accidents involving underage children dropped by 14.6%, and there were approximately 31.3% less cases in which teenagers and children were blamed.

According to the official numbers, there have been 23.3% less cases caused by inebriated drivers, and a 27.3% drop was observed in deaths caused by such crashes and car hits.

The number of pedestrian accidents dropped by 17.9%, and there have been 15.6% less deaths in such cases.

However, 7 children were killed in road accidents instead of 4 in the six months before. The number of people who received lethal injuries on road crossings also grew from 4 to 8.

According to the propaganda department traffic police branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the region, the main reasons of road accidents in the first half of 2014 were speeding, neglecting of pedestrian crossings, driving on oncoming traffic lane, infraction of priority, and car distance miscalculations.
