Penza region strengthened position in team sports rating

Penza, 5 August 2014. PenzaNews. The Penza region rose by ten points from 51st to 41st place in team sports rating in Russia compiled by the “Petersburg politics” fund and the “Sport-Express” newspaper.

The top three regions of the Russian Federation in this rating list are Moscow, Tatarstan and the Moscow region. The top 10 also include St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Krai, as well as the Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk and Belgorod regions.
According to the published information, five regions showed the biggest success since the previous rating, and the Penza region is among them, as “Diesel” was able to reach the quarter-finals of the Higher Hockey League, and “Empire” rugby team managed to get back in the Premier League.
According to the study, the Penza region won 7 610 points, while the leader of the rating, Moscow, obtained 87 085 points.
In some sports, the Penza region showed the following results: in football, the region rose from 66th to 62nd place; in ice hockey, went down from 20th to 18th; in basketball, instead of 24th place, it split the 23-24th places with another region of the Russian Federation; in volleyball, it is on 46th place instead of 47-48th; and in rugby, moved from 7th to 5th position.
Russian team sports rating is compiled by taking into account the impact of sports clubs of the regions in football, ice hockey, Russian hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, mini football, rugby, field hockey, and water polo.
It has been published since mid-2013 on biannual basis.
The third rating was calculated for June 30, 2014.
