Penza, 21 August 2014. PenzaNews. Over 900 thousand tons of grain was harvested in the Penza region from the area of 350 thousand ha, which equals to 65% of the plan, as of August 20.

According to the press service of the regional government, this year’s average grain yield is 26.4 quintals per ha, which is 2.5 quintals more than last year.

“Belinsky, Kamensky and Penza areas lead in this year’s harvest. Most municipalities have already harvested 70% of grains and legumes. 158.5 thousand ha of barley has been harvested with 27 quintals per ha. The highest yields are in Bashmakovsky, Belinsky and Bekovsky areas,” the press service reported.

The government representative added that approximately 80 thousand tons of spring wheat has been harvested on the area of 115.7 thousand ha, at the average yield of 25 quintals per ha in the region.

According to official information, the highest yield was registered in Belinsky, Bashmakovsky and Spassky areas.

“Moreover, the municipalities are on their way to complete the winter crop harvest. 26 tons of rye was collected on on 13.8 thousand hectares, with the average yield of 20 quintals per ha. Oat harvesting is underway with over 56 thousand tons gathered, at the average yield of 17 quintals per ha,” the press service said.
