Penza, 4 September 2014. PenzaNews. The number of Internet users of Rostelecom services exceeded of 100 thousand people in the Penza region, 90% of them individuals.

As the press service of Penza branch of JSC Rostelecom told news agency “PenzaNews,” the Internet access services had first been provided to the region residents in late 2003 with the introduction of xDSL wired technology.

“We had no more than 500 modem users in 2004. in two years, this number grew to 8 000, and by 2008, there have been over 43 000 modem users. In 2010, the cities and areas of the Penza region they launched a large investment project for the construction of broadband FTTB (Fiber To The Building) network. Optic fiber allowed the company to significantly expand the range of services and provide the public and the businesses of the region with broadband services at a better level,” the press service explained.

According to the director of Penza branch of OJSC Rostelecom Lev Dyatlov, telecom operator was working on the market of broadband Internet access with no serious competitors until about 2008.

“With the advent of optical networks of other operators in the market of the Penza region a fierce competition arose. In 2010, construction of the optics became a priority in our business. Every year we increased investment portfolio and expanded coverage area, so today we are able to retain existing customers and attract new ones,” he said.
