As the co-organizer of the event Nellya Bakhteeva told news agency “PenzaNews,” this kind of holiday aroused keen interest among Penza residents.

She noted that there came young families with small children and senior citizens, teachers and students.

“It brought together active and sociable citizens. Just like we wanted, not only people from the Lyceum came. I think it says that the residents of Penza are interested in such events, they tend to make new friends and socialize,” the agency interlocutor noted.

The big Lunch took place in several stages. The greatest influx of participants was observed in the first hours of the event. There was a contest for the most original and delicious dishes.

According to the representative of The Big Lunch organizing committee, a member of the jury Olga Pripisantseva, culinary competition winners received household appliances.

“We unanimously recognized manti the most delicious and “right” dish which was awarded with multicooker. The most original became a sponge cake with little figures of elephants and Russian dish with quails on skewers. The creators of these masterpieces received steamers,” she specified.

During The Big Lunch, there were held master classes in cooking Japanese rolls, carving and decoration of dishes.

In addition, children could participate in active games and contests organized for them. It was done by animators from the organizing committee and sponsors of the festival, as well as volunteers from Penza State Technological University.

As Olga Pripisantseva noted, activity of residents during The Big Lunch met the expectations of the organizers.

“This year, the action was carried out in ten regions. If we do not take into account Moscow, I would say with confidence that we had the most successful The Big Lunch. In our town, people were more active than in Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod. We have a reason to hope that we will be able to repeat the event next year,” she said.

The Big Lunch was first performed in the UK in 2009. Then the total number of participants reached tens of thousands of people.

In 2012, the event coincided with the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which was the perfect reason to gather 8,5 million Brits, not only in Britain but throughout the world.

The first Russian city, which had a similar event was Moscow. In 2012, the action, which took place on the territory of the design-plant Flakon, brought together about 7 thousand people.
A year later, The Big Lunch was first held in Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar and Kaliningrad.
