Penza mayor urges officials to name new streets deliberately

Penza, 23 September 2014. PenzaNews. Urban toponymics should be a mechanism for area branding, the head of administration of Penza Yuri Krivov said during a weekly operational meeting in the city administration on Tuesday, September 23.

He drew attention to the fact that many city streets are named after people who do not have any relation to Penza.
“Realizing the issue price, I do not urge to rename existing streets today. I’m talking about the new names — let’s choose them in order to promote Penza,” the mayor suggested.
During the meeting, Yuri Krivov instructed the department of architecture and urban planning of Penza to form a creative team with the assistance of the student audience, which would explore the issue of new street names, the press office of mayor informed.
