Penza, 13 November 2014. PenzaNews. Russian EMERCOM in the Penza region held special apartment building gas explosion recovery drill on Thursday, November 13.

The actions took place on one of the construction sites in Ladozhskaya Street in Arbekovo neighborhood.

According to the script, the building had a gas leak that resulted in an explosion, which caused the load-bearing structures and 3-5 floors of the first entrance to collapse.

Field services immediately arrived at the accident scene, and began the post-disaster recovery.

As Alexander Krylov, head of fire fighting and emergency rescue work of the main emergency department of Russia in the Penza region, told PenzaNews agency, they worked together with the police, gas and medical services.

“Fire and rescue units tested the techniques and methods of saving people, using ladders from the fourth floor and a rope system. Also, they tested two techniques of extracting victims out of the rubble using hydraulic tools and an air-powered lifting jack,” the agency interlocutor explained.

According to him, the service staff displayed satisfactory performance.
