As the press service of the regional government informed PenzaNews agency, the memorial will be dedicated to those who fell during the antiterror campaign in Chechnya.
“The names of 124 heroes will be immortalized in the bronze slabs of the monument. The complex was designed by the Honorary Sculptor of Russia Alexander Bem,” the press service added.
Recently, the barriers that surrounded the “Afghan Gates” monument have been removed after many months.
A new monument has been installed by the symbolic gates on a two-meter column: it depicts a heart and two open palms reaching out to it, surrounded by a girdle of fruit tree leaves.
Close to it is a new sculpture of a round base, five memorial slabs and a column.
Currently, the territory of the new monument is crossed off by protection lines, and parts of the sculpture are still wrapped in plastic.
