Penza, 22 December 2014. PenzaNews. The citizens of the Penza region yielded to panic caused by plummeting ruble and growing dollar exchange rates, and completely bought off large appliance reserves off stores, despite numerous price increases during the preceding week.

In particular, TV sets were completely sold off in the M.Video store located in “Kollazh” trading center as early as by the afternoon of Saturday, December 20. The store clerks said 200 more TV sets will soon arrive to the aisles: however, most of them are already pre-purchased.
The aisles were swept clean in cooktop and oven departments, while gas stoves, washing machines and fridges became significantly less numerous.
According to one of the sales managers, people were “sweeping off large stuff and all they don’t need”: some people were making large debit and even credit purchases they had been holding off for a long time, while others were “grabbing stuff they already have for reserve, like washing machines – just to have more to spare.”
Similar situation was reported in other big appliance stores.
At the same time, several experts addressed the Russians through various channels, including federal TV, to avoid buying appliances, going into more debt and buying currency during unstable exchange rates. Instead, according to them, people should try and save their capitals through banks that are offering high-interest ruble deposit plans.
