The tests were held in locations whose inhabitants require mobile Web access the most: crowded zones and bedroom suburbs, along with large trade centers, chosen for high connection loads that may affect connection speed during peak hours.
A 4G modem, a 4G router and a mobile device were used in the tests.
As a result, the connection speed was the fastest by “Vysshaya Liga” (downtown) and “Kollazh” (Arbekovo) trade centers, “Dva Gusya” (Shuist) and “Buratino” (Pobedy prospekt) shops at 16 Mbps, allowing users to stream Youtube videos without delays.
The speed of 11 Mbps was recorded by “Prospekt” and “Ternovsky Kust” trading centers in Arbekovo and Ternovka, the most crowded neighborhoods of the city.
Areas by the trading centers “Perekrestok” on Okruzhnaya street, “MetroCity” on Karpinskovo street, “Fortuna” in Yuzhnaya Polyana, and “Novozapadny” in Zapadnaya Polyana averaged at 12–13 Mbps.
According to Davi Melkonyan, the average speed of MegaFon online access was recorded at 13 Mbps, peaking up at 28 Mbps.
“This is at least four times faster over the previous-generation commection, and allows quickly downloading and uploading large files, watch HD videos and load any content,” remarked the Encounter urban games organizer.
As the press service of MegaFon Penza informed PenzaNews agency, over the span of two years the company has expanded its 4G network over the areas housing over the half of the population living in the city.
“Citizens of Penza, Kuznetsk, Zarechny, Nikolsk, Kamenka, Serdobsk, Gorodische, Spassk, Nizhny Lomov, as well as Srednaya Yelyuzan, Mokshan and Lunino villages may enjoy high-speed mobile Web access. Today, over a thousand MegaFon customers are using it, and their numbers grew two and a half times during the previous year,” the company emphasized.
