In 2014, the number of people convicted by the area courts of the Penza region to actual imprisonment decreased by 14% — from 1.175 to 1.010, informed Alexei Shishkin, chairman of the regional court, reporting on the performance of regional courts during the past year.

“It makes 27,8% of the total number of convicted persons,” he added, noting that in 2013, 2012 and 2011, the figure was 30%, 31,4% and 35,2%, respectively.

“95 people were sentenced to correctional labor. 300 persons — sentenced to compulsory work. 108 people sentenced to imprisonment, 403 — to a fine. 1.664 people have been sentenced to punishment with probation, which is 46,2% of the total number of convicts,” Alexei Shishkin noted.
