Penza, 8 March 2015. PenzaNews. A Penza woman, 53, added her name to the already long list of phone scamming victims.
“She received an SMS that said: ‘Invoice for transfer of 9,500 rubles from your card confirmed,’ along with a call center phone number. The woman called the number, and an unknown man, who introduced himself as a bank representative, told her somebody tried to steal money from the lady’s bank card, which is why she must ‘reserve’ her funds. To do that, he said, the woman must call him again when by an ATM. Following the instructions of the anonymous person, the woman subscribed for the ‘Mobile Banking’ service for an unknown mobile phone number, and transferred over 14,000 rubles to another mobile phone account,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs informed PenzaNews agency.
The fraud is being investigated, the officials added.
“We have established that the phone number of the anonymous person comes from another city,” the press service said.
