The official event dedicated to the date was held in the Penza Literary Museum late on Thursday, March 12. Among its guests were sponsors, beneficiaries and partners of the non-commercial organization.

Igor Zaidman, “Civil Union” board chairman, thanked the audience for their fruitful cooperation.

“Here are the people who are relevant to the foundation: all are ‘in it,’ we all are likeminded,” he noted.

Igor Zaidman also told about his personal story of working with the foundation: it began with an idea to support independent self-managed theaters, when he wanted to help but did not know how. It was then when Oleg Sharipkov, executive director of “Civil Union,” helped him.

“And when all was done, I understood why it is necessary. We need it to make charity a normal, well-organized and easy to understand,” he pointed out.

Igor Zaidman presented the foundation a gift of two parrots, and noted that many people associate “Civil Union” with its head Oleg Sharipkov, known by his online and Twitter activism.

According to him, the gift he chose is very symbolic.

The head of Penza administration Yuri Krivov also congratulated the members of the NGO with their foundation’s special date.

“It is very good to see new projects that not only solve their listed missions, but do the main task: unite people over something beneficial and good. This is golden,” said the mayor.

He wished the foundation to further follow the meaning of its title and become a true civil union of more like-minded activists.

As a souvenir, he presented the NGO with a hockey scarf with “Russia” written on it – one of the merchandise elements of the project “Children’s Sport,” – and wished the foundation workers to keep caring about the life of their native city.

He was followed by Oleg Sharipkov, executive director of “Civil Union.”

“We think a foundation is a place where people, ideas and funds meet one another, and something good comes out of it, something nice and fun to take part in, something really helpful,” he noted.

Oleg Sharipkov added that the foundation raised over 3.5 million rubles, hold 19 large events and form the special purpose capital for the local community just during 2014.

He briefly touched upon the main programs of the foundation, including “Hope Spring,” “Equipment For The Benefit,” “New Image,” the “Dobraya Penza” festival, and others.

The event concluded in an auction of five pictures: three by established painters, and two made by Penza school students. The auction raised 22,000 rubles that will fund the charity programs of the “Civil Union” foundation.

The guests of the event also had an opportunity to leave their wishes and suggestions for the entity on a cardboard tree.
