The event took up from the idea of the Penza activists to support the youth civil movement “Green Wave” which is currently gaining popularity in the Penza region.
During the campaign, the eco-activists cleaned up the water-head of the river Khoper, removed old leaves and branches from all 12 springs that feed the river, and collected a lot of human-made trash left by tourists.
The volunteers, who received cars and equipment from the Kuchki village administration, removed a total of two full trucks of trash in the action.
This year’s action was organized by the Penza branch of the Russian Geographical Society under the support of the regional government, Rosprirodnadzor, Penza region administration, regional Civic Chamber, Cossack union, Scientific and Technical Development Foundation, tourism club “Penza,” and the Belinsky Central Cultural and Recreational Park.
The eco-initiative also involved school students and teachers, members of recreative organizations and libraries of Penza city and the Penza and Kamenka areas, says the press service of the regional government.
