“39 events were held in 32 townships on May 1 that involved nearly 12,000 citizens. They were organized by workers’ unions, members of the LDPR, the Communist party. These were public rallies, marches and demonstrations. There were no gross public order violations on May 1-4,” he said.

447 police officers and 150 civilians were involved in security procedures, Nikolai Sarmin added.

According to him, May 9 was commemorated with 162 events in 146 Penza region townships.

“About 100,000 people took in them during the daytime. 25 areas held holiday fireworks, with about 35,000 people there. There were no gross public order violations, either,” he stressed, clarifying that over 1,800 police officers and 650 public militia members were involved in protecting the peace.

However, Nikolai Sarmin highlighted, the police registered 167 DUIs in May 1-4 and over 100 in May 9-10.

Moreover, he said the holidays also had numerous small-scale administrative violations.

“The police registered nearly 6,000 protocols on administrative violations in May 1-4, and about 3,500 in May 9-10,” stressed the regional MVD police department deputy head.

He thanked all law enforcement officers of the Penza region for arduously doing their duty and the heads of the municipal bodies for their support.
