The medical services have already registered a single case of tick-borne borreliosis infection in the Penza region and two persons in need of preventive treatment due to bites, the press service of the EMERCOM department in the Penza region informed PenzaNews agency.

“To prevent tick bites, you should take certain measures. In particular, do not go deep into bush growth, such as raspberry, alder or hazel, unless you really need to. Avoid tearing off branches when you walk along a forest road, as this may cause ticks to fall on you. Fully cover your legs with track pants or stockings, preferably with smooth surface, tucked inside your socks, and avoid wearing short shorts at all. When you go outside the city, always wear a hat, and if you have long hair, tuck it under the hat as well,” the department explained.

A walk in the forest should always be followed by examination of outdoor clothes, underwear, and skin.

“Remember to brush your hair with a fine comb. If you find a crawling tick, burn him with a match, as ticks are very resilient and cannot be safely crushed. If you find a tick attached to the skin, do not pull it out with your fingers, as its head may stay embedded on its own. To remove a tick, pour camphor or natural oil on it, and pull it out with tweezers 10-15 minutes later. Treat the bite with brilliant green or iodine tincture,” the EMERCOM department advised.
