90 people bitten by ticks in Penza region within week’s span

Penza, 29 May 2015. PenzaNews. A total of 90 residents of the Penza region, including 27 children under 14, were bitten by ticks between May 22 and May 28.

Thirteen insects collected from the bitten persons tested positive for tick-born borreliosis, the press service of the regional Rospotrebnadzor department informed PenzaNews agency.

“92 citizens had been bitten by ticks during the same period a year ago,” they added.

According to the press service, a total of 348 Penza region residents, including 113 children, have been bitten by ticks since the start of 2015 so far.

“We conducted anti-tick measures in seven health resorts, 14 country, 49 school and 2 student’s summer camps, six labor and recreation camps, the Olympic sports school, the Olympic alley, and ‘Russkaya Okhota’ hotel complex,” Rospotrebnadzor elaborated.
