11 pilaf flavors cooked at Penza City Day contest

Penza, 12 June 2015. PenzaNews. A total of 11 flavors of pilaf cooked by many different recipes were made by cooks competing in a contest held on the right bank of Sura river as part of the celebrations of Russia Day and City Day on Friday, June 12.

The contest jury was composed of such people as members of the regional government, city administration and civil organizations, who sampled the food and pronounced the winners, Satimbay Berdiev, president of the Penza regional civil organization “The Uzbek Commune,” told PenzaNews agency.
“The winner was Akhmajon Atambaev who prepared the Andijon pilaf, one of the Uzbek pilafs. The second place was awarded to Nurill Mistanov for a Shakhrisabz pilaf, and the third place was given to the Tajik pilaf cooked by Muhamat Batyr,” said the interviewee.
The cooks used a total of 120 kilograms of rice, 60 kilograms of meat, 120 kilograms of carrots and onions, 60 liters of cooking oil, and various spices.
The pilaf prepared by the contestants was enough to feed 1,500 people.
