Pavel Astakhov concludes his visits to Penza region children’s institutions

Penza, 15 July 2015. PenzaNews. Pavel Astakhov, Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of Russia, has concluded his audit of the children’s institutions in the Penza region during a meeting held in the regional government on Wednesday, July 15.

“Overall, the region has a sufficient legal bas that helps ensure reliable protection for the children and the family. However, some institutions shown separate issues that are easy to rectify,” the ombudsman noted.
He added that the numbers of children in the region continue to grow over the last three years.
“The pregnancy before age over these three years went up 18%, and four girls under 14 out of five who got pregnant received abortions. I would like to review this issue in detail,” he said.
However, Pavel Astakhov noted the positive trend in the children abandonment prevention measures.
“I would like to city or the region to create this: hold single-day tours to those who want to abandon their children with disabilities to the boarding houses for such children. To show how they live,” he stressed.
