The event was timed to the International Homeless Animals Day celebrated yesterday.

Around 20 people visited the center. They had a chance to see the living conditions of the inmates, the work of the volunteers, learn about the funding of the center, as well as what kind of assistance, including non-material, it is possible to provide to the center.

The staff showed the visitors around and introduced to the inmates, telling where and under what circumstances they found each animal.

As Inna Nazarova, executive director of the regional public charity foundation “Helping Hand for Stray Animals,” the main task of the open house is to tell Penza residents about “Pitomets” center.

“Of course, we'll be very glad if people take an animal, but this is not what is important today,” the agency interlocutor said.

She explained that at present the bulk of the center expenditure is the purchase of fodder, medicines and materials for operations and rehabilitation of the animals, as well as rent.

“Regarding help, during the summer we have a large number of students volunteering. Those who help financially are few. And those who adopt an animal are single instances, because everyone is on vacation,” Inna Nazarova noted.

In the end of the open house, one cat found new home. Also, the new owners “booked” a cat and promised to come back for one.

It is planned that in honor of the International Homeless Animals Day, the volunteers of “Pitomets” center will organize a flash mob in the square at the concert hall “Penza.”

“We will “construct” a cat's face out of the people present and release balloons into the sky. We shall not take animals with us. We are not willing to provoke pity and thus attract attention, we just want people to have fun,” Inna Nazarova noted.

The event is scheduled for 16.00.
