Penza, 5 October 2015. PenzaNews. Yuri Voblikov, chairman of the regional branch for the Russian civil movement “For Human Rights,” nicknamed “The Gas Mask Man” after his unorthodox protest techniques, seeks to take the post of the children’s rights ombudsman in the Penza region.

“I appealed to the Legislative Assembly and the governor,” the human rights activist told PenzaNews agency on Monday, October 5.

According to Yuri Voblikov, the authorities asked him on Friday, October 2, to await for the phone call, and he currently hopes that “the bureaucrats will pen [this appeal] town, in the good meaning.”

“I always promote myself as an ombudsman – the human rights one earlier,” the speaker added.

He also noted that the regional civil organization “Committee on Human Rights” plans to suggest its deputy chairman Elena Cherlyantseva “known for her help to children, women, family and refugees.”

“We think there must be an alternative for each office and the public must not stand aside but suggest people and methods,” Yuri Voblikov stressed.
