The trainees were tasked to pull a person out of water as fast as possible.
Moreover, they tested their scuba-diving kits by testing the pull-out procedure for a drowned person, imitated by a mannequin.
According to Alexander Stulchikov, head of the search and rescue department for the Penza fire rescue center, the training is necessary as many fishermen currently go out fishing in the Sura water storage basin on inflatable plastic boats.
“This carries certain risks, as a boat can deflate. More often than not, they [the fishermen] go out without safety vests, which sometimes leads to a tragedy,” he pointed out.
