“My deepest sympathy to relatives and friends of the victims of the A321 crash in the Sinai peninsula. Today is the day of mourning in Russia. We grieve,” the head of the region wrote in his Twitter account on Sunday, November 1.
The Airbus-321 passenger jet belonging to Kogalymavia transportation company took off at 6.51 am in Egypt on Saturday, October 31. 23 minutes later, after rising above 9 km, it disappeared from the radars.
One of the last known broadcasts from the pilot featured a request to change the flight route and provide landing in the Cairo airport – supposedly, due to technical difficulties.
The debris from the crashed passenger jet was found in the central part of the Sinai peninsula. There were 224 people on board, including 17 children: none of them survived.
Russia has sent over 100 people and 11 units of machinery to organize a rescue operation at the crash site, with cooperation with Egypt’s rescue services.
The commissions already began deciphering the “black boxes” found at the crash site.
November 1 was declared a day of mourning in Russia.
