During the surgery on a woman diagnosed with strong myopia with complications and degeneration of retina, the doctor removed a cataract and implanted two intraocular lenses developed in Penza.
The remarkable feature of the completed operation was the fact that the removed eye lens was fully replaced in volume: using a real-life case, Rashid Galeev has demonstrated how to construct a complete imitation of the original eye lens using a hollow two-part ocular prosthesis.
The feed from the surgical microscope was broadcast online, along with commentary from the surgeon on the intricate details of the implemented technology.
The second day of the conference was dedicated to discussion of the post-surgery results, where the patients who underwent incredibly elaborate operations were inspected in the morning, with results discussed by medical professionals afterwards.
The outcome of the operation by Rashid Galeev attracted great attention from his colleagues: while his patient still required 3.5-diopter glasses to account for residual myopia, the results for focusing at long-distance objects were astonishing – 20/25 without any lenses.
Several professionals from other regions took interest in the technique.
This is the third time Rashid Galeev is taking part in this workshop system. He also received an invitation from his colleagues in Moscow, Kazan and Samara to conduct yet another online-broadcast surgery next year.
