Penza, 22 December 2015. PenzaNews. The Penza library No. 18 that is currently located in the basement of a five-floor apartment building on Popova street, 6A, can be moved to Ternovka, Galina Aseeva, director of the city’s centralized library network, told journalists before the weekly city hall session on Tuesday, December 22.
“The library administrator turned in a resignation letter as she became a pensioner many years ago. She has the right for retirement,” she explained.
Moreover, according to her, the current location of the library in Zapadnaya Polyana residential area falls below the sanitary norms.
“It does not have a restroom or a fire exit, it is located on the basement level. Therefore, we are looking for a new location. The issue is already on review in the Municipal Property Department. We hope we get a worthy location to place the library. […] The possible location currently on consideration is Tereshkova street, 8,” Galina Aseeva clarified.
The Zapadnaya Polyana residential area will not be left without a library, she added.
“There is the library No. 14 on Mira street, 48, right on the frontage line,” she pointed out.
In turn, the press service of the Penza city administration reported that the Penza city library network currently features 25 libraries with 177 librarians.
“The libraries received 38.5 million rubles in 2014, and 41.7 million rubles in 2015. The planned funding in the 2016 budget is 42.5 million rubles. We have plans to recover the buildings unsuitable for housing libraries into municipal property. The book funds and staff of these libraries will be moved to suitable locations,” the city administration explained.
