Women fraudster lures 1,6 mln rubles from Penza citizen through text messages

Penza, 28 January 2016. PenzaNews. A Penza citizen became a victim of a fraud after he received several text messages about alleged transfers of large sums of money and agreed to help return the “falsely transferred” funds.

The incident began when the man published an online ad in an attempt to sell a fur overcoat owned by his daughter, the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews agency.

“Shortly afterwards, he received a call from an unknown woman who said she wants to buy the goods, and asked him to tell her his bank card credentials, allegedly for an advance payment. Following that, the seller received several messages saying he received transfers of 270,000 rubles and 1,388,000 rubles, after which the unknown woman called him again, told him the money was a mistaken transfer, and asked him to transfer them to another account,” the police said.

Afterwards, according to them, the man made a transfer of 100,000 rubles and another of 1,531,000 rubles to the credentials he received from the woman.

“An investigation is underway. We established that the unidentified woman was calling from a mobile phone number registered in a different city,” the police department explained.
