A small yet readable print on the banner explains the origin of the word, as well as its source – the French word “poutine,” which is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable.

In a conversation with a PenzaNews reporter, the cafe staff explained that a poutine is a type of meal (which is depicted on the banner) that consists of a serving of French fries with toppings and cheese.

Poutine (spelled “putin” in Russian) is a traditional Quebecois fast food dish.

Poutine originally appeared in Quebec, Canada, in the 1950s. In the 2000s, poutine gained popularity in other Canadian provinces, along the US, France, Belgium and other countries.

The name of the dish is attributed to the English word “pudding,” which was commonly used in Quebec in the 1950s-1960s to describe a mixture of various foods.
