Penza to hold great celebrations for Russia Day, City Day

Penza, 2 June 2016. PenzaNews. The Penza festivities dedicated to Russia Day and City Day, both celebrated on Sunday, June 12, will begin several days before.

The actual festivities will begin with an official event dedicated to the double holiday, scheduled at 15.00 of Friday, June 10.

On Saturday, June 11, the festivities will spread over most of the open-air platforms and cultural institutions of the city.

In particular, the celebratory events on the Fontannaya square that day will begin at 12.00 and end at 21.00 – from a concert of local performers at noon, to an official opening of “Kanitel” local craftsmen festival and a graffiti festival an hour later, to a cover music festival at 15.00, and more.

In the meantime, the Denis Davydov square will host a literary bivouac at 12.00, where passers-by will be able to visit installations dedicated to Vasily Klyuchevsky and Vissarion Belinsky; an All-Russian Blood Donor Day campaign at 12.00-13.00; and a music radio event at 14.00-17.00.

Alongside that, the Belinsky central park prepared a City Day campaign “My City, My Fortress” at 14.00-15.00, followed by a veteran music performance.

The festivities at the Ulyanovsky park will begin at 11.00 with a family quiz show “I Live in the City, I Know the City,” followed by a Youth Theater performance “Little Red Riding Hood,” competitions, children’s games, more quizzes, and a “City Streets Travel” quests, all lasting through 17.00.

Moreover, the Belinsky public garden will hold a patriotic campaign at 11.00, while the Olimpiysky park will be organizing a campaign “Waiting for Wonder” at 17.00 for families expecting birth.

Also, the Penza zoo will open a petting zoo ground at 12.00.

In the meantime, three art locations – culture houses “Zarya” and “Mayakovsky,” the culture and leisure center, and the Russian choir and vocal culture center – will hold screenings of Russian films for the hearing and vision impaired.

The official celebrations dedicated to Russia Day and Penza City Day will begin on June 12.

Some of the first events on the day are the unveiling of the new Penza Region Hall of Fame at 10.00, the Yermin memorial plaque and public garden at 12.00, and the unveiling of the landmark of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor at the Marshal Zhukov square at 13.00.

The festivities at the Lenina square will last from 10.00 to 22.00. Apart from the traditional public rally, the day’s agenda at the location will feature demonstration of achievements in sports, performances of renown an rising local artists, and a gala by laureates of the city company amateur performances groups, as well as a screening of Soviet and Russian films starting at 17.00.

The nearby Box of Proverbs public garden will hold an arts and crafts fair and a folk concert from the morning to the night.

In addition, Moskovskaya street will host a children’s painting exhibition “Penza, You Are My Russia!”

The “Kanitel” festival will continue at the Fontannaya square at 9.00, while a number of children’s groups, as well as “Venzelya” and “Zorka” main and children’s ensembles holding performances.

The Denis Davydov public garden will resume the literary bivouac, the Vasily Kluchevsky and Vissarion Belinsky installations, along with the festival “Music to City Streets,” an orchestral parade, and theatrical performances.

From 11.00 to 16.00, the Belinsky public garden will host the “Dobraya Penza” festival of non-profit organizations and city communities, where many NCOs will be telling people about their activities, organizing workshops and various promotions.

From 16.00 to 18.00, the Yubileynaya square will hold a performance program “Russia Both in Heart and in Song.”

Moreover, the square by the youth center will begin a Russian ethnic cultures festival at 11.30.

The Olimpiysky public garden will be hosting entertainment and competitions from 10.00, including dances for seniors at the summer scene.

The festivities in the Belinsky central park will last from 12.00 to 22.00, with a crafts fair, a number of concerts and a disco included in the schedule, all culminating with an open-air film screening.

The Ulyanovsky children’s park will hold festivities of its own between 11.00 and 18.00.

Moreover the culture houses “Zarya” and “Mayakovsky” will organize film showings at 15.00.

The pinnacle of the celebration – the holiday fireworks – will be hold at the Sura river embankment by the Rostok monument at 22.00.

In addition, the Russia Day – City Day festivities will continue into Monday, June 13, when citizens and guests of Penza will be able to enjoy a relaxing day in parks and public gardens and visit concerts in cultural institutions and open-air grounds.

Moreover, the Fontannaya square will host a celebration for the 20th anniversary of the local Channel Eleven from 15.00 to 20.00.
