“Investigation measures helped us learn that there was an upcoming attempt to smuggle inside a big batch of mobile phones in construction materials for one of the inmate dormitories,” he explained.
The batch in question was found hidden inside a hollow metal door, Andrei Popkov clarified.
“The Penza region Federal Penitentiary Service takes particular attention in preventing any attempts to smuggle illegal items, including mobile phones, drugs and liquor, inside penitentiary institutions. This is a particularly important field of work for us, as it helps preventing criminals already inside penal institutions to commit further crimes behind their doors,” he added.
The investigation of the case is underway, he pointed out.
