Penza city to hold “Memory Candle” campaign as Memory and Grief Day approaches

Penza, 20 June 2016. PenzaNews. The city of Penza will be joining the countrywide campaign “Memory Candle” dedicated to 75 years since the beginning of the Eastern Campaign of the Second World War.

The campaign will take place on the day before Memory and Grief Day, June 21. At the night’s beginning at 21.00, representatives from the authorities, civil organizations, WWII and military veterans, and other citizens will assemble at the Penza Military and Labor Valor on Pobedy prospekt.
During the campaign, which already became a full-fledged tradition over its 20 years, all who attend the ceremony will receive candles, light them all at once, and then leave them at the monument square as tokens of gratitude to to their ancestors.
In addition, people are encouraged to show support for the campaign online by lighting a candle anywhere, take a photo and publish it in any social network with the hashtag #MemoryCandle, says the press service of the city hall.
