“In July the parties will sign all necessary documents, and then we will start implementing the projects aimed at improving the efficiency of the transport system and the quality of urban environment,” the head of the Economic Development Department of the city administration Alexei Ryabov commented on the meeting’s results.

During the meeting, the Penza application presentation was given. It included two projects: “Creating advantages of public transport in the urban environment and increasing its infrastructure value in the transport system in the city of Penza,” and “Development of the existing infrastructure of pedestrian and bicycle zones as part of the transport system in the city of Penza.”

The project “Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from road transport in the cities of Russia” has been realized in Russia since 2013.

It aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere through improving planning and urban transport management, creating effective systems of monitoring and promotion of environmentally friendly modes of transportation, as well as using new low-carbon technologies.

The pilot cities of the project are Kazan and Kaliningrad.

In the first quarter of 2016, five more pilot cities of the project were selected: Tyumen, Rostov-on-Don, Penza, Irkutsk, and Krasnoyarsk.
