“At night, on September 3, traffic police officers on duty on Prospekt Stroiteley Street in Penza noticed the VAZ-2109 car, the driver of which grossly violated the rules of the road. He ignored the police demands to stop the vehicle and tried to escape at high speed. Police inspectors began the pursuit. Information about the offenders and their possible route was transmitted to all traffic police on duty to take the necessary measures to detain the offender,” the department explained.

The police added that one of the traffic police cars was on Prospekt Pobedy Street and noticed the violator.

“Given that it was moving at high speed and was approaching a pedestrian crossing with people on it, the police officers instantly assessed the situation, in order to protect the health and safety of citizens, police officers blocked the roadway with the official car. Despite the exposed barrier, the driver of VAZ-2109 did not slow down, and the car smashed into the police vehicle. As a result the traffic police officers of the patrol car — Denis Pivikov and Timur Shakirzyanov — were injured. Both received medical attention, one of them was hospitalized,” the department explained.

The press service added that the perpetrator was arrested and taken to the police department for further investigation.

“It was established that he repeatedly grossly violated traffic rules. He may be brought to criminal, as well as administrative responsibility,” the department emphasized.
