Famous Russian scientists and public figures are expected to take part in the discussion organized within the framework of the III Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference “The role of the Russian Orthodox Church, society and the state in the preservation of the historical memory of the new martyrs, confessors, and victims of repression.”

The central theme will be creation of the monument to the new martyrs and victims of the civil war and mass repression.

The memorial is planned to be located in the vicinity of the bishop’s house – next to the monument to the revolution fighters. The region remembrance days of victims of political repression are planned to be held near it.

According to the project proponents, this monument will help to recover historical balance, the center of which will be the cultural dominant of the Spassky Cathedral.

The monument to the new martyrs is scheduled to be opened on 12 October 2017. For this purpose it is necessary to register title to the land plot properly and create the memorial, which, according to preliminary estimates, requires 5 million rubles.
