Penza, 10 October 2016. PenzaNews. The Penza region population continues to decline, but at a slower pace compared to the previous year. The head of the Penzastat Segrei Shemenev reported on it during the action meeting in the regional government on Monday, October 10.

“As of January 1, the population of the Penza region amounted to 1 million 348 thousand 703 people. This number will accompany us throughout the year as the official record. Although now, as of September 1, one million 344,5 thousand people actually live in the Penza region. That means that the population has decreased by 4.2 thousand people, or 0.3%,” he explained.

Sergei Shemenev drew attention to the fact that the rate for the period from January to August 2016 is negative, but it is better than it was a year ago, when the population of the Penza region decreased by 5.4 thousand people, or 0.4% within eight months.

“For the period of January- August 2016 compared to the period of January-August 2015 the number of deaths declined by 595 people – by 4.3%, the number of births decreased by 71 people. The balance here is positive, therefore, the natural population decline decreased by 524 people within eight months,” the head of the Penzastat remarked.

He added that the number of divorces decreased by 157, or 4.5%.

“In January-August 22 thousand 619 people arrived to the region. For comparison: last year for the same period 21 thousand 944 people arrived to the region. 23 thousand people left the region, last year – 23 thousand 18,” Sergei Shemenev said.

He specified that the overall migration population decline of the Penza region for the period from January to August 2016 amounted to 388 people.

“Compared to the last year, this indicator improved – last year the migration population decline for the same period amounted to 1 thousand 74 people,” the head of the Penzastat concluded.
