Penza, 1 November 2016. PenzaNews. 227 people died of poisoning caused by alcohol-containing products in the Penza region over the past 9 months 2016.

Total 544 cases of alcohol poisoning were reported in the region, including 257 in Penza.

Compared with the same period last year, the Penza region specialists marked the increase in poisoning by alcohol-containing products by 5%, fatal outcome declined by 5%.

Ethanol poisoning was registered in the cases of 521 people, 204 of whom died; methanol — 28 people, 22 cases with fatal consequences; propanol — one person; other alcohols — one death; unspecified alcohol — two cases.

In addition, the statistics show 10 cases of acute alcohol poisoning among children under 14 years old, which is 1,5 times less than in the same period of 2015. Among adolescents aged 15-17 they registered 19 cases — which is 1,7 times more.

462 men and 82 women received alcohol poisoning.

369 people in the total number of poisoned are unemployed, 104 are pensioners, 40 are working people, 21 — high school students, seven — students of higher and secondary educational institutions, two — homeless people. There was also a case of poisoning by ethyl alcohol — a 5-year-old boy from Bessonovka area took alcohol by mistake, the website of Rospotrebnadzor in the Penza region informed.
